STAR WARS: Dark Empire is the first "expanded universe" comic from Dark Horse with an original storyline. It takes place after Return of the Jedi, and tells the tale of a returned Emperor Palpatine into a cloned body, and the "fall" of Luke Skywalker as his new Sith Apprentice. Did Luke really turn to the dark side? If so, can he be redeemed, and by who? What will the Emperor's final fate be?
Dark Empire was a great mini-series that, along with the "Thrawn Trilogy," helped pave the way for many subsequent tales in the voluminous STAR WARS expanded universe. |
The Dark Empire costume club is primarily a custom Sith costuming group. However, we allow for custom and canon Sith, Dark Jedi, and Grey Jedi, as well as other costumes that are Sith affiliated, including non-Mandalorian bounty hunters (out of respect for our sister club, the Mandalorian Mercs). For example, in The Clone Wars animated series, bounty hunter Cad Bane was hired by Darth Sidious. We therefore accept Cad Bane as a "Sith-affiliated" costume.
Some of the nomenclature in TDE, like the term Sedriss (a local leadership rank), is taken directly from Dark Empire. In the audio drama of STAR WARS: Dark Empire, actor Billy Dee Williams reprised his role as Lando Calrissian, and TDE inducted him as its third honorary member, behind Dave Prowse and Ray Park. After that, it was decided to extend qualification for honorary membership in TDE to any STAR WARS contributor. In the tradition of our club namesake and its radio adaptation, TDE is also a fanfiction club with its own set of audio dramas. Fanfiction can be shared on our forums, and our fanfiction audio dramas are used for a charitable purpose, much in the same way we "troop" in our costumes for charity. |
Out of respect for the 501st Legion, we don't accept Stormtroopers or Clone Troopers as approved costumes within TDE. However we do allow for armored Sith Troopers as seen in SWTOR and KOTOR.
Sith Acolytes and Sith Inquisitors as seen in SWTOR are also accepted as approved armored canon costumes within TDE. Royal Guards and Shadow Guards are accepted within TDE as canon Dark Jedi. Other canon Royal Guard examples are Kir Kanos and Carnor Jax from the Dark Horse series "Crimson Empire" and it's audio adaptation.
